All kinds of good vibes out there today. Not too cold, lots of sun, and delicious macaroni with homemade meat sauce to share. One of my favorite regulars, Robert, stopped by and we reminisced about how when we first started two years ago, he would watch out for us. He would pull up his wheelchair to our table and eat his lunch with us and I thought he was just being chatty. And that was true too...he's very friendly and a joy to talk with. But he was also making sure that no one took advantage of us or took more than their share of what we offered. I'm grateful every day for friends like Robert who have known us from the very beginning, who have accepted our false starts with grace, and who continue to show with kindness and support.
We are Baltimore City residents serving other Baltimore City residents.
We cook wholesome, homemade comfort food to serve at noon every Saturday at the corner of North & Pennsylvania Avenues to anyone who'd like to join us. We think of ourselves as a pop-up cafe that happens to be free and open to all. Sharing food made the way we would prepare it for our own friends and family helps us connect with the guests we serve. Who doesn't love mac & cheese, chicken noodle soup, or hot buttered cornbread?
Comfort food can bring up warm memories and bridge our differences.
That's the Cornbread part.
We show up with warmth, hospitality, and a desire to connect with our neighbors. We offer a welcoming smile and a friendly chat to all who stop by to see us. We welcome all, we serve all. We develop friendships with our regular guests and some of them join us and become volunteers themselves, helping to serve others. For an hour a week, every week, we strive to create a space of welcome and inclusivity in one small corner of Baltimore.
That's the Love part.
Together, we are Love & Cornbread.
