The highlight this week was that once again our friend Vincent from Tuerk House helped one of our guests get the services they needed, right away, and on a Saturday. I can't even explain what a miracle that is in a world where most help is offered M-F, 9-5, by appointment only, several weeks out. Volunteer Barbara had simply asked this guest (I'll call her A) how her day was, and A replied that she wanted to get off the street and find a safer place to live. Barb connected A to Vincent who was able to explain what Tuerk House could do and A decided to go in for help. It is a testament to the trust and credibility that Barbara and Vincent have built within the Penn North community - by showing up week after week - that people are willing to trust us with their most vulnerable moments.
We were back on the breakfast burrito wagon this week, and despite the Baltimore Running Festival's impressive attempt to keep our volunteers from being able to reach Our Time Kitchen on Saturday morning. Many thanks to this crew for the early morning arrival and impressively fast burrito production!
